Tree Keepers: Volunteer Training for a Healthy Community Forest
Heartland Tree Alliance is once again offering its popular 16-hour Tree Keepers class, which provides extensive training on trees and tree care from experienced, certified arborists and foresters. Graduates will become eligible to volunteer at HTA’s many pruning events and are asked to provide 24 hours of volunteer service with HTA to help care for young trees on public property in the Kansas City region. Walking School Bus “Drivers” Needed – August 2010 through May 2011
The Walking School Bus Program is planning for the 2010/2011 school year. Sign up now to walk a group of children to and/or from school as a volunteer Bus “Driver.” The program is being established in the following Kansas school districts: Tonganoxie; Louisburg; Shawnee Mission; Kansas City, Kansas; Olathe; Lawrence and De Soto. Shredding Events – Saturday, September 18 Event filled!
Help combat identity theft and increase paper recycling! BTG is partnering with PROSHRED® to offer two Community Shredding Events on Saturday, September 18, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the 3 Trails and Metro North Recycling Centers. BTG needs volunteers to direct traffic, unload cars, educate patrons and assist with recycling boxes and other containers. National Public Lands Day Beautification Event - Saturday, September 25 Event filled!
National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest volunteer effort to enhance the outdoor public spaces enjoyed by all Americans. This year, Keep Kansas City Beautiful will partner with neighborhood associations and home associations in Ruskin Heights/Village, Ruskin Hills, Kirkside, and Stratford Estates along with St. Matthew Apostle Church CCO, Ruskin Neighborhoods CDC, and the Hickman Mills School District to install a rain garden and beautify five parks and 12 school sites. National Public Lands Day Ecological Restoration Event - Saturday, September 25
We don’t know where, but we do know when, and we definitely know what! Join us from 9:00 AM to noon as we work on removing invasive plants from a remnant Kansas City WildLands site during National Public Lands Day. Kansas City WildLands Annual Honeysuckle Battle – November 6, 9:00 AM - Noon
To Battle! Join us for our biggest restoration event of the year as we battle the dread shrub honeysuckle that threatens Kansas City's beautiful wild places on several sites at once. Sustainability Speakers Needed - Next Training November 18
Do you have a desire to educate others about steps they can take to live more sustainably? We are looking for volunteers with significant public speaking experience or who are very comfortable with public speaking to schedule and give short presentations to community groups about specific solutions to our planet's environmental challenges.

Community Recycling Centers
The Community Recycling Centers need you to help reduce the amount of trash going to the landfill! Sign up to volunteer at one of our recycling centers, and you’ll help conserve resources, reduce waste and meet other citizens who care about the environment. The centers operate every week and are almost completely staffed by volunteers. Scheduling is flexible – whatever amount of time you have to give is appreciated! This is a great opportunity for individuals or groups. Current Kansas City locations: 91st and Hillcrest, 4707 Deramus and Metro North Shopping Center. Green and Litter-Free Events
Community groups that choose to make their events “green” by using the services of Keep Kansas City Beautiful’s Green and Litter-Free Events program often seek volunteers to help with recycling and other litter-reduction activities at those events.
